New Look of Webforall Portal

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer has been actively facilitating different sectors in Hong Kong to adopt accessibility design on their websites and mobile applications, so as to make online information and services easier to access by all people, including persons with disabilities. We built up a thematic accessibility portal (http://www.webforall.gov.hk) to provide a series of practical resources in order to drive the adoption and raise public awareness of web accessibility design. The portal recorded a total of 9.3 million page views and over 0.7 million downloads of various resources since the launch of the Web Accessibility Campaign in 2011.

A new look of the Webforall portal was put into service in August 2017. The contents of the portal have been re-organised to group related information and services under four strategy categories to facilitate users in browsing and searching the required information. The categories include “Government Leadership”, “Fostering Awareness”, “Promulgating Guidelines and Tips” and “Nurturing Expertise and Organising Recognition Scheme”.

Besides, “Web Accessibility Campaign” was also renamed as “Web/Mobile App Accessibility Campaign” with an aim to including more guidelines and tips relating to mobile application accessibility.

As such, contents specific to mobile application accessibility are incorporated in the portal, including Web/Mobile App Designers’ Corner, Quiz and Frequently Asked Questions, to facilitate users in looking for accessibility design service providers and browsing information on mobile application accessibility.

On the way forward, we will continue to share more guidelines and resources on the portal.
